The Pet Haven Rescue Center is a non profit, all volunteer, no kill animal rescue facility.
We are a 501c3 tax exempt organization.
We are listed with the State of Virginia as a humane organization.
All donations that we take in are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
This facility is managed without state, city or federal contributions.
The Pet Haven provides a temporary home for animals that have been transferred from high kill shelters until we can find loving, permanent homes for them. Many of the animals that we rescued have been with us for a long time. We have had many cats for as long as 5 years and some of our dogs have been with us since they were born.
If you or anyone you know would like to adopt one of our animals, please contact us. The animals in our care are taken care of with life's necessities however, they do lack the much needed attention and love that an individual home can give them.
Do not underestimate the joy an adult cat or dog can give animal owners. Most of these aging animals are through the baby stages and are much more settled. We have many older dogs and cats that would make very loyal, loving companions.
The animals that reach our facility have not been vaccination or been afforded opportunities of spaying or neutering. We do all of that plus more. There have been some that the vet has had to pull several of these teeth due to their teeth never being cleaned. We have had laser surgery on a few of our kittens eyes are they are blind because of sickness. Sometimes we spend hundreds of dollars on one animal.
This is why we need your help. Donations and fundraising is the only way we can keep our doors open. We can not raise our adoption fees to afford homes for these animals. We do not make any money from the adoption fees. We want to find homes for these cats and dogs and we do not require people to go through a lot of red tape or a waiting period. We feel that our animals have went to good homes.
Please send us pictures or your emails of your animals you have lovingly adopted so we can share the joy. Thanks to everyone that has adopted one of our animals. These animals deserve a second chance.
We want to thank the Katharine B. Tierney Foundation, Sharon & Marshall Miller, The Virginia Commonwealth Campaign,. The Community Foundation of the Virginias, and First Community Bank of Bluefield, WV, Wal-Mart of Bluefield,Va, Synnova Hayes of the Bay Foundation, New York, and Sams Club of Bluefield, Va. for their generosity
Many of these donors helped us get our dog house built so we could take in the dogs that we transfer from the other shelters. And thanks to the generosity of the many, many individuals that have supported us through the years and now. Without them we would not be able to keep our doors open.
Being able to take in these animals will keep many from being euthanized at other shelters. We want to give Sams Club a special "Thanks" because during the month of May for our "Strut your Mutt" dog walk, the employees of Sams that owned dogs, started a contest between themselves to see which of their dogs could raise the most money for the Pet Haven. There was some fierce competition going on between these employees. But the total of all the money that we received from Sams Club for out dog walk was over $2600! This was on top of what was raised by the other participants. This was awesome!
The winner of the two Dollywood Theme Park Tickets and a $25 Walmart Gift Cart went to Laura Rice and her dog Sugar. Laura has been a regular at our "Strut Your Mutt Fundraiser for a few years now. Thanks to everyone who participated!
We are still funding the spaying or neutering of low income families' pets. If you live in Tazewell or McDowell Counties you can get your cat spayed or neutered for only $15.00. We pay a $35 flat rate on dogs and the rate you will pay will depend on the size of your dog. We work with Green Valley Animal Hospital. So please, give us a call as there just isn't enough homes out there. Call 276-326-3483 to set up your appointment today! Only 1 in 5 cats born will find a permanent home.

We aren't sure of this little girls breed but she sure is different.
She has raccoon eyes and quite an underbite. She is shy but once she gets to know you she is fine. She gets along well with other dogs. She has long hair and dalmation looking spots. She is of small size--about 20 lbs.
Bandit is spayed and ready for her patient owner.
Blondie is about a year old. She is not a large dog.
She weighs in about 30 lbs right now. She is very sweet. She is already spayed and up to date on shots waiting for her new home.

We need someone to help us with our empty inkjet cartridge programs. This consists of packing and shipping hundreds of cartridges that we get donated. We also need someone to help with our Purina weight circle program. This consists of collecting weight circles from various Purina brand dog and cat foods and turning them into the company for vet money. We still collect aluminum cans too. We will also be needing more volunteers to help fundraiser. We were unable to do our annual Santa with Pet Pictures classy year as we had no one to help us. That is something we had done for 7 years! The people that usually helped in the past did not want to help us this year. We are needing people to do fundraiser's on their own for the benefit of the Pet Haven. Our director just can not be in two or three places at one time and she fundraiser constantly on her own. If you want to host a hotdog sale, yard sale, or anything in that nature that will help us this summer, please contact us. If interested in any of the above mentions "help wanted" situations, please call us at 276-326-3483.
